| Body Mass Index (BMI) | Weight Status |

| 18.5-24.9 | Normal |
| 25.0-29.9 | Overweight |
| 30.0 and Above | Obese |
Body Mass Index is a convenient tool that is sometimes used as an indication of health. Body Mass Index can be the same for a muscular person in excellent physical condition as it is for a person with excess body fat.
For example, the Body Mass Index of a weight lifter who is 5ft. 9in. and 225 lbs. is the same as a 5ft. 9in. person with excess body fat. The Body Mass Index is 33.2
There is increasing evidence that height and its relationship to weight is an indicator of health. The above example, while true, is an extreme. There are far more people in the U.S. with a Body Mass Index of 33.2 that are obese rather than weight lifters.
What all of this means is simply, BMI is an indicator to be used in conjunction with other evidence to determine the state of your health. It is always best to consult a physician.
